The last week was a busy one for the lab, with JC in Chile teaching at a workshop titled Cryo-EM meets MD.  At the same time, Karl, Anthony, and Conner were at Riverdale Middle School near Atlanta showing VMD Lite to junior high and high school students.  See more on our hands-on page.

“The photosynthesis society” is not a new scientific organization, but rather a description of the “society” of molecules that come together to carry out a complex task such as photosynthesis. Klaus Schulten, Professor of Physics at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, recently came to Georgia Tech to explain the inner workings of this society from the atomic level on up. JC was honored to be a part of the 2014 Memorial University Biophysics Symposium in St. John’s, Newfoundland. Beyond an absolutely stunning location, it was also great to see some of the exciting biophysics being done by our northern neighbors!

In collaboration with the Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group at the University of Illinois, we will be hosting a workshop on using computational techniques to simulate and analyze biological systems.  The focus of the workshop is on the programs NAMD and VMD, developed by the TCB Group.  The workshop will be from Nov. 3 – 7 on the Georgia Tech campus.  More information can be found here: http://www.ks.uiuc.edu/Training/Workshop/Atlanta2014/
